The Communications Unit is located in the Department's Communication Center. The Center is a well equipped, modern Police dispatch center. The Center is staffed by four full-time and five part-time Police Communications Officers. They handle not only the Police and Parking Services Communications, but also communications with other University Departments and numerous local law enforcement and fire services agencies.
The Communication Center staff answers the majority of the telephone calls to the O.S.U. Department of Public Safety and all emergency phones. All 911 calls originating on campus are routed directly to our Communications Center where caller and location information is available through the University's Enhanced 911 computer system. Also all Emergency Blue Phones calls are routed directly to our Communications Center. As aids to the Communications Officers and E911 duties our Communications Center is equipped with campus wide intrusion and fire alarm system, computer aided dispatch system, telephone and radio recording system, closed circuit parking lot surveillance & recording system, a telecommunication device (TDD) for the deaf , an area wide radio communications system, a PC connected to the University main frame, and a Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications system (OLETS)/ National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer terminal.
